Coroner Identifies Santa Barbara Man Found Dead at Alameda Park
The Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Bureau has publicly identified the man found deceased last week at Alameda Park. He was 66-year-old David Wayne Neal, a transient residing in Santa Barbara.
The discovery occurred on Friday morning when the Santa Barbara Police Department, alongside fire and paramedic crews, responded to a report of an unresponsive person near a park bench at 1400 Santa Barbara Street. Upon arrival around 10 a.m., first responders found Neal without a pulse.

Despite immediate attempts at lifesaving measures, Neal was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have stated that initial investigations revealed no immediate indications of foul play. The case underscores the ongoing vulnerabilities faced by local unhoused residents. The Coroner’s Bureau will determine the official cause of death at a later date.
