Joshua Lewis,Coroner IDs Pedestrian Hit by Kelso Amtrak as Hoquiam Man
Authorities have released the identity of the pedestrian fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Kelso over the weekend. The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office confirmed the man was Joshua P. Lewis, 38, of Hoquiam.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday near the railroad tracks in the 400 block of South First Street. According to the Kelso Police Department, the Amtrak Cascades train, traveling southbound, struck Lewis. Despite the immediate response from emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation into the precise circumstances leading to the collision is ongoing. Preliminary reports from law enforcement indicate no signs of foul play. The tragedy halted train service for several hours as authorities processed the scene.

The coroner’s office stated that Lewis’s family has been notified. The community of Hoquiam, located approximately 80 miles west of the accident site, mourns the loss. This event marks another somber reminder of the dangers present near active railway lines.
